The Opportunity

The city is redesigning Grand Army Plaza

The NYC Department of Transportation has been studying the plaza and developed several design options. We support Option B, which would close the road between the Arch and Prospect Park and connect them into one continuous pedestrian plaza.

The community agrees: in DOT's survey of 2,077 people, 78% said creating protected pedestrian space should be the top priority — the most popular choice by far. At the public workshop, 88% of attendees supported significant redesign. Read the survey →

What Option B Would Do

  • Close the roadway separating the Arch from Prospect Park
  • Consolidate fragmented islands into a single plaza
  • Improve bike and bus operations (including B41)
  • Shorten dangerous crossings
  • Create space for markets, events, and daily life
