The city is redesigning Grand Army Plaza
Mayor Mamdani has backed the redesign that will close the road between the Arch and Prospect Park and connect them into one continuous pedestrian plaza. NYC DOT is finalizing the design now.
The community has spoken — repeatedly. In DOT's survey of 2,077 people, protected pedestrian space was the most-requested change at 78%. At the public workshop, 88% of attendees passed over both incremental options. In the 2024 follow-up, 86% of 1,624 respondents chose the unified pedestrian plaza. Read the survey →
